Have You Met

Have you met…

Kathryn Pavia?

Ever wonder who is behind the social media posts? Who is creating and posting the blogs? Who puts together the quarterly newsletter? Well, it’s me! Kathryn Pavia (Kat). This entry of our “Have you met” blog series is a little different because it is about me. It is a bit strange being the subject, but here goes nothing!
I have been the Marketing Advisor at Advisors Insurance Agency for 2 years. I work from home, as I am a full time stay at home mom, but you may see me set up in the office from time to time.

Say What?

When writing these “Have you met” blogs, I make the subject tell me something about the person that most people might not know. In the spirit of fairness, I am choosing to disclose the following…I was a cheerleader in high school and am providing proof! The picture you see here actually hangs in a physician’s office/physical therapy clinic in Greensboro, NC where I had knee surgery. In fact, I just recently heard from a high school friend who saw the picture there the other day!

How Did I Get Here?

So how does a stay at home mom get into social media marketing for an insurance agency? Well, while acting as the Co-Team Mom alongside Abby who is married to Miles (Principal Advisor for Advisors Insurance Agency) for our kids’ Wee Ball team, I was responsible for all emails and parent communication. Miles was impressed and offered me a job! At first I laughed because I thought he was joking. Then I realized he was serious. Miles thought I would be a good fit for the position of Marketing Advisor because I am, as he puts it, a H.E.S.A.H.M. (Highly Educated Stay At Home Mom). And he was right! While I enjoy being a stay at home mom, I also enjoy working the part of my brain that has been dormant since leaving the outside working world.

My Background

My family moved to Greensboro, NC from Rochester, NY when I was 8 years old. After college in Chapel Hill, NC, I had a year-long internship at Davidson College as an Athletic Trainer. I soon realized that was not the career for me, although I wouldn’t trade my experiences as an undergraduate Athletic Trainer at UNC-CH for the world! A fresh start took me to Atlanta. After trying to find my way in the sales world, I returned to school and became a Registered Radiologic Technologist.
My husband Matt has been a PGA professional for 18 years. His career opportunities have moved us around a few times, leading me to explore job opportunities in Radiology, a non-profit, and hospital leadership. When we moved to Greenville and our first born was 2 years old, I accepted the most challenging job as a stay at home mom!

Family

In 2013 Matt accepted a career opportunity that brought us to Greenville, SC as the Head Golf Professional at The Cliffs Valley. Prior to this, we lived in Atlanta, GA, Raleigh, NC, and Jacksonville, NC. We feel Greenville is a great combination of the best aspects of the other 3 cities and hope to be here for a long time!

Matt and I met in college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We are die hard Tar Heels down here in Tiger and Gamecock country. Matt and I will be celebrating 16 years of marriage in November, alongside our wild and crazy boys, Colin (6) and Eli (3).

Best Advice

The best advice I ever received came from my father over 15 years ago. My husband and I were trying to purchase our first home in Atlanta, GA. We fell in love with a house only to find issues during the inspection that caused us to cancel the deal. I was extremely upset when my father said “Honey, I know you don’t know why, but there is a reason this didn’t work out. One day when you realize what that is, you will look back and be grateful it happened the way it did.”

His words didn’t really comfort me at the time. However, a few years later when that house was destroyed by a flood (and not in a named flood zone), I realized how true his words of wisdom were. Not only do I reflect on that advice often, but I have given that advice to others as well. When things don’t go as I hoped they would, I remind myself that things happen for a reason and it helps me to move forward, stay calm, and trust.
